ASSESSr algorithms are derived from machine learning whereby the machine learned the optimal combination of warning, risk and protective factors. ASSESSr applies an algorithm derived from multiple data points in the individual’s history and potentially reduces them to clinically meaningful information. This kind of meaningful information is then used to develop an alert system for clinicians identifying patients at risk (suicidal behaviour, child harm, etc). For example, the system issues a "red light warning" or "risk score" for every person assessed; you can see an elevated risk for suicide and get a professional to respond immediately.

Just like you get a cardiovascular risk score, you get a suicide risk score that is informative and helps direct what steps to take next. Too often, those next steps never happen. Studies show about 60-90 percent of people who die by suicide had visited a medical provider within the past year and the provider was unaware of their concerns.
