Munch Mani-Cure

by Bella Rune

What is it about?

The app Munch Mani-Cure is a new Commission by artist Bella Rune for MUNCH Triennale – The Machine is Us at MUNCH in Oslo, Norway. This commission uses a selection of artworks from MUNCH’s own collection as its starting point. In Bella Rune’s Munch Mani-Cure app , mobile phones and Augmented Reality are used to give a ‘manicure’ to all the hands which have come into contact with Munch’s paintings over the years: hands belonging to art dealers, curators, thieves, and the artist himself. Hold your phone up to paintings on Floor 4 (Infinite) and Floor 6 (Monumental) and view Munch’s art as you’ve never seen it before: his images augmented by manicure’s methods of caring for and communicating through the hands and fingers, and various unusual, expanded and experimental frames which Rune has placed around the paintings. At home you can use the takeway version of the app to scan reproductions of Munch’s works on postcards, screens and posters.
