Australia has significant exposure to natural disaster events such as cyclones, floods, bushfires and storms. But how can you find out which events are most likely to occur in your location?

Various government agencies in Australia are responsible for mapping and disclosing hazard exposures to property owners. In some instances however, the information can be time consuming to locate.

The Insurance Council of Australia has been collecting and using government hazard mapping for the last decade, in an effort to understand where these hazards most frequently occur.

Insurers use highly detailed versions of this data to understand the probability of a claim occurring at an individual address level. Many insurers also have their own commercially sensitive hazard, claims and repair cost data to help them competitively set premiums that they believe best reflect the risks and the costs of these events when they occur.

The MyHazards application provides users with a less detailed summary of the potential risks facing any address. This information will potentially differ from the high resolution information used by some insurers. The information provided in the application is a guide only and is intended to encourage the property owner to seek out more accurate information where necessary from the government authority responsible for hazard management in their area.

This is summary information only and is not suitable for making critical safety or personal financial decisions. Hazard data is almost constantly being improved by governments at all levels and you should check back often to see if data has changed for your location.

The terms and conditions for use of this application are flagged in the application at startup and must be accepted before proceeding. The terms and conditions are available at http://www.icadataglobe.com/myhazards.
