ii) Organizing Kenyans in case of a tragedy affecting large population in general.
iii) Networking for personal and career advancement.
iv) Maintenance of contacts of Kenyans.
v) Enlightening members on various topics relevant to their welfare.
vi) Fostering peace and unity amongst Kenyans of different walks and faith.
vii) Initiating Charitable projects to assist Kenyans in the United States and in Kenya.
viii) Mentoring and counseling new arrivals in the United States for easier settlement within
the society.
ix) Disseminating any important information affecting Kenyans in the United States.
x) Any other purpose that is lawful and charitable in nature.
When a registered member is bereaved, the members of the organization contribute an amount to be given to the family of the deceased. Each member contributes (recoups) through NCKO which collects the contributions on behalf of the family of the deceased. The contribution amount is the same for every member. Well wishers from the general public who also want to contribute can do so through the app as a One Time Recoup then NCKO Welfare will give their contribution to family of the deceased together with the recoups from the members. All the contributions are for the members welfare since NCKO is a non-profit organization.
The NCKO Welfare app purpose is to increase engagement of members within the community. Someone who wishes to be a member can fill in the registration form on the app. The application will have to be approved by the committee after some verifications of personal details. The member can then utilize functionality such as make recoups directly from the app using Paypal, records contributions made using (offline payment) physical payments eg cash and checks, view dates of various events, view account statement, view NCKO news in their inbox and also there is a chat/messaging system for engaging other members.
The general public can also use the app to make their contributions. Every bereavement has a system generated Code. The Code is distributed through NCKO mailing list as well as the website. Any person can use the Code to make a donation to the bereaved family using Paypal as the payment method. The contributions by non members have mostly been via cash and checks. Adding the One Time Recoup will make donations from non members easier because of reduction in physical logistics. One Time Recoup as a feature of the app is an organized way for donations to be made to the bereaved family by external parties who for one reason or the other may not wish to be members eg work colleagues, church members etc
