App Store Description

The NewGenderation App is a simple mobile app that invites people to make daily challenges of different difficulties that sensitize them on gender issues on daily basis and motivate them to reflect about this aspect of their lives.

It was designed within the framework of a European project called New Genderation, co-financed by the Rights, Equality and Citizenship Programme 2014-2020 of the European Union, aiming at preventing and countering gender-based violence among children and youth. The project proved actions for children and youth age 13-18 years old and the professionals working with this target groups in 3 European Countries: Spain, Poland and Bulgaria. The partnership that co-ordinated and leaded the project activities was composed by Stowarzyszenie dla dzieci i mlodziezy SZANSA from Poland, Association Pro European Network (PEN) from Bulgaria and Cazalla Intercultural from Spain.

One of the project actions was the design of the NewGenderation app with the aim of engaging young people in learning processes, boosting their understanding of gender and gender-based violence, critical thinking on gender and overall gender sensitivity.

The content of the app was generated with the help of the input of young people and the objective of it is to offer the tool for young people, that could sensitize them on the daily basis on the gender issues, promoting the good treatment towards themselves and the others and in the long term create a behavioural change.

The users of the app can thus encounter 30 daily challenges that invite them to think and act, individually or in relation with the others. The challenges are designated randomly, each day a new challenge is unlocked and available to try out. The challenges have 3 levels of difficulty: easy, medium, difficult, depending on the time and effort required to complete them. Some examples of these challenges are:
- Easy: Tell your colleagues (in work, school, university) what are their best (not physical) qualities that you highly appreciate.
- Medium: Carry out today one household task that is usually not associated with your gender.
- Difficult: Rewrite the lyrics of a song you like, to make it more gender sensitive (one paragraph or the whole lyrics if you feel inspired), e.g. empowering women, and post it on your social media with the hashtag #newgenderation.

No proof is required from the user that the challenge has been completed, the challenges are unlocked on a daily basis whether the challenge has been completed or not. In this way the users can take their time to perform the challenge or even, if they have several challenges open, they can choose which one of them they prefer to complete first.

When a challenge is completed, part of the image that is hidden under the challenges is also unlocked.
The image, an attractive and youthful visualization, created by a Spanish graphic artist Ana Galvañ will be fully discovered when all challenges are completed and can be used as wallpaper in the phone, tablet, computer or shared trough users' social networks.

Finally, the challenges are organized by categories. The first category currently available is gender equality, later on other categories of challenges may appear (e.g. daily challenges against racism, daily challenges on global citizenship, etc.).

You dare to try it? Think. Act. Change.
