What is it about?
Established in 1972, the Ohio Utilities Protection Service (O.U.P.S.) is a nonprofit organization that serves as a communication link between utility companies and individuals planning any digging activity. Though O.U.P.S. does not physically mark lines, we do relay digging and excavation requests to our member network of utilities and underground facility owners. This network includes, but not limited to: cable television, natural gas, electrical, water, sewer and telecommunications companies.

Our continued commitment to advanced technologies has given our organization an advantage, recognized both statewide and nationally. We also devote a significant portion of our time and resources to promoting safe digging throughout the state, through presentations, special events, partnerships, and public education and outreach initiatives.
Download the O.U.P.S app, it has lots of helpful information to those new to the "Call Before You Dig" process as well as those familiar to the process.
You can view upcoming events, how O.U.P.S works, the law, legislative updates, contract locator lists, training and safe digging videos and commercials, FAQ's, information on Damage Prevention Councils and the Public Outreach Team or what it takes to be a member of our service using Membership options.
Use Positive Response to check on who has marked their lines. Edig can be used to enter single address locates. Users of Idig can now enter tickets using our new HTML 5 idig. Near ticket will show you where excavations are taking place around your current location.
Remember, Call (or click) before you dig! It's fast, it's free and it's the law!
