This walking tour provides insight into the colorful history of Decatur, Alabama. Old Decatur Historic District – one of the city’s two areas listed on the National Register of Historic Places – dates back to the town’s settlement in 1817 on the banks of the Tennessee River.

You'll find easy-to-follow directions, maps, photos, interesting details on the architecture of the buildings and anecdotal stories about Old Decatur's roots. The district is home to the largest concentration in the State of Alabama of Victorian-era, Craftsman, and Bungalow homes which date from the late 1880's and the early 20th century. Several buildings survived the devastation of the Civil War.
