Old Masters Picture Gallery – SKD

The Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister (Old Masters Picture Gallery) is one of the most important art museums in the world. This app will help you explore the masterpieces of European art history assembled in the gallery. Its highlights include not only Raphael’s famous “Sistine Madonna”, but also Giorgione’s "Sleeping Venus", Vermeer’s “Girl Reading a Letter by an Open Window”, Cranach’s “St Catharine’s Altarpiece” and Bellotto’s views of Dresden. The Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister is part of the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden, an alliance of fourteen museums in Dresden, Leipzig and Herrnhut. The origins of the Gemäldegalerie can be traced back to the Kunstkammer (‘art chamber‘) of the Electors of Saxony, which was founded in the mid-16th century.
