Optune® is an effective, non-invasive treatment modality for patients with a Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). The device delivers alternating electric fields, in a low-intensity (1–3 V/cm) and intermediate frequency (200 kHz) to the tumor in the brain. The electric fields are delivered by ceramic gelpads (Transducer Arrays) that are placed directly on the scalp. Tumor-Treating Fields inhibit cancer cell replication and can lead to a mitotic catastrophe, autophagy and apoptosis.
