PAM is a brief, scientific survey that determines how capable a person is at managing his or her own health. A PAM score places an individual into one of four levels of health activation along a 100-point empirically derived scale. Each activation level provides insight into a rich mosaic of health-related characteristics, including attitudes, behaviors, and utilization. Over the past decade, nearly 300 peer-reviewed research studies completed in over 20 countries have proven PAM to be the gold standard for measuring health activation. Health systems, hospitals, insurers and other healthcare organizations across the United States and around the world are using the predictive power of PAM to stratify population health risks, appropriately tailor patient care, improve health outcomes and reduce costs.
