PortableCaptain

PortableCaptain is a mobile application designed with the needs of connectivity between sea captains and ports in mind. Utilizing PortCDM functionality and real-time information the captain is able to monitor the progress in the port related to his/her upcoming, on-going and conducted port calls. By combining all the reported port calls of a route in one view, the information is presented in a more efficient manner and gives a better perspective of the whole route. Timestamps for the on-going port call are displayed segmented in different views best suited for the current stage.

Due to an increasing port-to-actor connectivity, there is a need for captains to be more involved by sharing real-time information with the PortCDM ecosystem. This app empowers captains to participate in a more collaborative information environment that increases port efficiency and reduces unnecessary administrative burdens, delays and the environmental impact.

PortableAgent accesses timestamp information according to the port call message format (c.f. IALA S-211) and adopts the principles of data sharing and situational awareness according to the Port Collaborative Decision Making (PortCDM) concept, one of the enablers of Sea Traffic Management (STM). Users are authenticated through the maritime connectivity platform (MCP). The application connects to API’s for consumption and submission of timestamps provided by PortCDM compliant data sharing platforms.
