The app is based on the Eisenhower Decision Principle, where tasks are prioritized depending on their importance and urgency. Urgent matters are usually visible, insist on action, and are often easy and pleasant to do. Importance on the other hand, contributes to your mission, your values, your high priority goals.
This very app was designed and implemented using this method and was completed in 2/3 the amount of time assigned. The Eisenhower method is not only a very powerful tool to help you be more productive and save time, but will also help you in doing the things that truly matter. There really is no such thing as Time Management, only Self Management. While Time Management focuses on accomplishing tasks, Self Management focuses on preserving and enhancing relationships and on accomplishing results.
Quadrant 1, Urgent & Important - Deals with significant results that require immediate attention. With that being said, it is important to note that as long as you focus on this Quadrant, it keeps getting bigger and bigger until it dominates you.
Quadrant 2, Important - The heart of effective Self Management. We often compromise these tasks for Quadrant 1 tasks, but if we spent more time in this Quadrant not only will we lead more productive lives, but we will also find ourselves happier and more fulfilled. Some example tasks include, that phone call to a family or friend, learning a new language, and even exercise. Quadrant 2 must be acted on, while Quadrant 1, because of its urgency, acts on us.
Quadrant 3 & 4, Urgent & Neither - This is where you should be spending the least of your time. The issue is many people spend their time in Quadrant 3, Urgent, thinking they are in Quadrant 1. Reacting to things that are urgent assuming they must also be important.
