The Richter number of an earthquake is only part of the story. A higher Richter number is more powerful than a lower Richter number. But by how much? For instance a 7.0 Richter quake is over 30 times more powerful than a 6.0 quake when expressed in tons of TNT equivalent. This app can help illustrate how much more deadly a few tenths of points on the Richter scale can be.
