Requiem for the Impossible is an immersive musical and storytelling performance about ambiguous loss, a form of unresolved grief. The requiem is entirely unique, co-created with audience members using an app. This app is designed to work exclusively with the performance.
The requiem is based on the true story of three South African sailors who disappeared in the Indian Ocean in 2015. Suspended between grief and hope, one of the families has shared their experience of ambiguous loss with the world.
The requiem combines original musical scores, poetry from the family and voice recordings of the skipper Anthony Murray, made at sea. It is performed by musicians Lucy Kruger and Liú Mottes and complemented with visuals, sound effects and light with the help of the live audience.
