Studying with flashcards is a proven method for mastering material and improving response time and recall. This app is designed to reproduce the front/back or top/bottom type of flashcards that have helped students learn though the years.
Flashcard content is oriented toward middle school students taking Early U.S. History with the goal of helping them master course content more thoroughly. The flashcards are hard-coded in the App and therefore cannot be lost, misplaced, changed, erased, or deleted. They’ll always be ready when you need them. You can even reload them if you feel the need to.
The cards are classified into 19 “Categories” which represent the typical divisions of a middle school level course in U.S. History. If you want to view all of the cards, select the last category, “All Units” and get a large cup of coffee ready.
In addition to Category, each flashcard has been assigned a Learning Level as a general indicator of the depth of knowledge for the card as it relates to the typical course content. Learning Levels are Essentials, Grade Level, and Mastery.
Users self-assign a Skill Rating to each of the flashcards based on their own evaluation of level of mastery of the card’s content.
Browse Deck: Users can scroll through a listing of cards or examine them one-by-one. The detailed view displays only one card at a time, allowing you to scroll up and down to review or study the cards. Users can change their Skill Ratings using this feature.
Play the Quiz: You can test your knowledge of a category by playing a timed quiz game. Users view questions and then the answers, indicating whether or not they know the content. Your Skill Ratings are adjusted up or down based on the response. If the clock runs out before you do, you’ll lose one of your Skill Rating stars!
Game results for each category are saved for the most recent attempt and your high score.
Quiz Game User options:
• Change the response time from 60 seconds to anything between 10 and 90 seconds.
• Play in Reverse Mode where the answers are displayed while the question is hidden.
• Turn off Sound Effects if you find the various sounds annoy you.
• Erase the results and high scores of the quiz games already played.
Target the areas not yet conquered by selecting the Skill Rating you want to focus on. Either review all cards in a category or just those where your Skill Rating indicates you need more work.
Users can also narrow their focus by limiting the cards viewed by Learning Level.
The goal of the App is to facilitate learning by helping individuals master history in an efficient, proven, and fun way.
