SAM Tool

by Dennis Phillips

What is it about?

The SAMTool is the mobile application companion to the MSU Sustainable Agriculture Management (SAM) web site. Using the SAM web site, farm and vineyard managers can evaluate pesticide relative-risk to their workers based on handling and the amount of usage of these materials. The use of the pesticides are tracked using tasks created by the managers. Workers can use SAMTool to view their tasks and to indicate when the task has been completed. The application tracks who completed the task, which material was applied to which field, and, in the case of spraying tasks, where the material was applied, as well as the current weather conditions when the task was started. The application also allows a worker to take and upload a picture of a suspected insect or disease infestation and upload it for review by their manager. Managers can now use this mobile application to create their farm, define the growing blocks, create tasks, and generate reports.
