The Wordsmith (Sanan seppä) lets you to meet Mikael Agricola and other citizens of the Protestant Reformation period in the Turku Cathedral. This Augmented Reality app transfers you to the time when Catholicism changed into Lutheranism and literacy became common among Finnish people.
Besides the ordinary Turku citizens - blacksmith Olavi, his wife Katariina and their son Hemminki - the story presents several influential historical characters, even the King Gustav Vasa.
To follow the Augmented Reality story you need to be in the Turku Cathedral. You can experience events among the story characters in eight scenes in different parts of the Cathedral. From the app you can also access the extensive background material in the internet about the story characters and events.
The scenes in the app are spoken mainly in Finnish, and it is subtitled also in English and Swedish. The app is part of the celebration of the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation in Turku.
The Sanan seppä app is a cooperation of the University of Turku, Turku and Kaarina Parish Union and the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland.
