SANTA’S SECRETS: Everyone knows Santa arrives on the rooftop with the clatter of eight tiny reindeer. But did you realize that ’Twas the Night Before Christmas created that iconic image? This very poem also introduced big-bellied Santa coming down the chimney.
Before this Christmas story was penned by Clement Clarke Moore in 1822, and published the next year in the Troy Sentinel, in upstate New York, these details of Santa’s annual visit were closely held secrets. What joy was brought to curious children around the world!
In a groundswell of Christmas magic, 80+ volunteers from 20 countries translated and narrated each language. In 2023, we celebrated the poem’s 200th birthday with a playful skit at the Victorian Stroll in Troy, New York, celebrating America’s most beloved poem.
