What is it about?

The Science and Engineering Practices Observation Protocol (SciEPOP) is an observation tool designed to facilitate identification and recording of the eight practices of science and engineering outlined in the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) for Early Childhood / Early Elementary learning environments. In addition to differentiating among those eight practices, the tool includes three levels (emergent, proficient, and exemplary) to help researchers capture the developmental steps towards proficiency for each practice. Additionally, the tool includes codes to capture teacher interactions with students (“teacher moves”) within those spaces. The app allows for data export (.csv file) which can then be imported to other software programs for data analysis.
