What is it about?

SciHex is a real programmer’s scientific calculator. If you know what hexadecimal is, if you write scientific, embedded, or engineering type programs, this calculator is for you. This scientific calculator works exclusively with real floating point numbers in double precision. Finally, working with hexadecimal numbers is freed from the domain of integers only! And you don’t have to tap buttons to alternate between base 10 and base 16 displays because both are always visible!

App Store Description

SciHex is a real programmer’s scientific calculator. If you know what hexadecimal is, if you write scientific, embedded, or engineering type programs, this calculator is for you. This scientific calculator works exclusively with real floating point numbers in double precision. Finally, working with hexadecimal numbers is freed from the domain of integers only! And you don’t have to tap buttons to alternate between base 10 and base 16 displays because both are always visible!

Display formats are easily selected; for decimal you can select floating, scientific, engineering, and engineering with SI prefix formats, while for hexadecimal you can choose twos complement floating, twos complement scientific, signed floating, and signed scientific formats.

Error messages are rare because this calculator knows about infinity, and if errors do happen they explain the cause. Yes you can divide by zero, the result is infinity.

Touch gestures are used for several operations to make them more natural. Swipe left on the hexadecimal view to sign extend, you don't even have to press = first. Pinch or zoom on either result view to change the display precision. The new function toolbar is customized by drag and drop.
This calculator is best for those people who do a series of scientific calculations and want to see intermediate or final values in hexadecimal, for example to make sure that there will not be any overflows if the same calculations were to be computed using scaled integers.

The buttons are big and all the text is large font to make it easy to use. Function buttons are accessed by category to make them easy to find, and frequently used functions may be placed by you onto the new optional function toolbar so you can use them in one press instead of two.
