The new SCIS Photo App will allow people to take “passport style” photos, submit their photos and provide their guarantor’s name, email address, and signature through a mobile device. This information will be securely transmitted to Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) through the App.
Once your complete application and supporting documentation is received, the new SCIS Photo App will automatically link your photos with your application. You do not need to contact Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) to inform us that you submitted your photos through the App.
To complete your application for the Secure Certificate of Indian Status (SCIS), you must still provide a completed application form and supporting documentation.
Applicants will no longer need to pay to have “passport style” photos taken. The Government of Canada is committed to eliminating barriers and improving services to First Nation communities. The new SCIS Photo App has been developed to eliminate the cost of photos for applicants and provide a convenient way to provide photos for a secure status card application.
It will be free to download the SCIS Photo App and it will be free to submit your photos using the App. You will need internet access and a mobile device that can download applications.
To complete your application for the Secure Certificate of Indian Status (SCIS), you must submit an application form and supporting documentation. The Government of Canada is not charging applicants any fees to apply for a secure status card; however, there may be a cost associated with providing supporting documentation as part of their application.
You must be registered as a status Indian under the Indian Act to get a status card. If you are not registered, you must provide a completed application form and supporting documentation.
You cannot use the SCIS Photo App to submit photos for an application for registration and a secure status card at the same time. However, once you are registered for Indian status, you will be able to use the SCIS Photo App to apply for your first secure status card separately or to renew or replace your secure status card.
