Having a realtime understanding of the lyrics in opera is key to an audience’s connection with the performance they are watching. Context broadcasts live subtitles to the user’s phone allowing them to understand every word of our performances, no matter what language the piece is in. This means you understand the full meaning and context of our productions.
Most classical music performances begin with them insisting you turn off your mobile phone, but not us! We think mobiles offer the perfect way to deliver subtitles to our audience. Our events have an informal and relaxed atmosphere so keep your phone out (just pop it on ‘silent mode’), open the app and hold it where it’s easiest for you to keep an eye on the action whilst reading the translated lyrics.
Lyrics are displayed in full screen (landscape) mode to make for easy reading, but are displayed as soft, white text on a black background to minimise distraction to other audience members. Other features of the app include a digital programme for the event including running order, artist biographies and ‘behind the scenes’ films.
