SmartDriver

TOWER SmartDriver is a free smartphone app that is designed to reward good drivers. By using the app, and proving you’re a safe and careful driver, you could save up to 20% on your motor premium with TOWER.

SmartDriver will also help you improve your driving by giving you tips along the way. You'll need to enable location services for SmartDriver for the app to work.


How it works

SmartDriver collects basic driving information through the numerous sensors within your smartphone, including the accelerometer and the GPS. Information collected – which includes distance, location, braking and acceleration – is then used to determine your driving behaviour. The app will even give you driving feedback!

Once you’ve completed 150 kilometres (over multiple trips of less than 75 kilometres each) you’ll receive a SmartDriver score between 0 and 10 (10 being the highest). The app will also show you how you compare to other drivers on the road. Depending on your SmartDriver score you could earn savings on your premium.

With SmartDriver, you can even challenge friends and family on our head to head and group leaderboards. Challenge your neighbour to a daily duel to see who drives smarter over 24 hours, or set up a workplace leaderboard to see how you compare against your workmates, and maybe claim bragging rights.

Please note that this app is for use in New Zealand only.

Note: Battery usage - GPS often requires more battery power. If you’re planning a long journey, make sure you have a full battery before you start, and consider using an in-car charger.
