The Emirates Soil Museum was officially opened on 8 December 2016 and is a unique facility in the GCC preserving a collection of soil monoliths, rocks and fossils from the UAE as well as books, maps and tools used to study soils. Since its launch, the museum benefitted students, researchers, professionals, scientists, environmentalists, decision and policy makers, and land use planners in the common pursuit of sustainable development.
The objective of the mobile application is to enhance the museum experience further by providing additional information about the exhibits using augmented reality features, games and interactive educational experiences. The application consists of 2 primary components: the museum tour and the field trips. The tour acts as a museum guide providing additional information about the exhibits available to all app users. The field trips offer further resources such as hands on activities, AR games, experiments and worksheets for school and university students.
