Sounds in Words

Sounds in Words App is designed to assist people to learn how to pronounce unfamiliar words.

How to use Sounds in Words App.
Type in a word. If the word is in the App, symbols corresponding to the number of sounds in the word will appear in the the two buttons. Press either button to hear a sequence of sounds which make up the word. Upper button will play every vowel equally stressed. Lower button will only stress the dominant vowel.
If additional small buttons appear, then the word can be pronounced in more than one accepted way. Select each alternate small button to hear the alternative pronunciations.

Currently the Sounds in Words App contains couple of thousand words beginning with letter "A". The intent for the future of this App is to contain words beginning with letters "A" to "Z" for a fuller lexical range.

Since English language has many dialects, the most widely understood English dialect was chosen for this App. This is the dialect of Hollywood films and sitcoms.


Bear in mind that If your word is not in the App (or was misspelled) then symbols in the two buttons will not be displayed. Also, there's a possibility that the App could contains some slight errors.
