Supported by Stop Hate UK this Street Harassment App provides a means for individuals subject to any form of Street Harassment to quickly report what has happened and if necessary, access support. While evidence shows that women and young girls are significantly at risk of such unwanted attention in public places, ranging from verbal abuse to serious assault, we know that anyone can be subject to such harassment simply because of their personal identity.
However, due to the personal nature of these incidents the level of official reports is particularly low. Often seen as incidents not worth reporting, in spite of the distress and trauma they can cause, or because they somehow shame the person affected, it is difficult for local agencies to understand the true level of street-based harassment.
The Start Safe Stay Safe App delivered by Stop Hate UK helps to bridge the gap in that knowledge.
This free App can be used to submit video, photo or audio information with a report to Stop Hate UK about Street based Harassment in selected areas. All reports are reviewed by our team and where consent is given onward reports made to local agencies to access support or investigation. Anonymous reports will be shared with local agencies to aid understanding of the level and type of Street Harassment in their areas.
