SurPlate is an e-commerce app focused on providing a marketplace for farmer's market type of foods. The app connects buyers and sellers with freshly made cottage foods available in their local communities. Up until now, there hasn't been a way to streamline the process of selling foods for home-based sellers. Beyond food and farmer's market events, sellers are hungry to provide their customers with baked goods and cottage foods in a convenient and user-friendly format that's accessible on a daily basis. SurPlate loves farmer's markets and food events which is what gave us inspiration to provide a medium for local communities throughout the year.

How Surplate Works: First and foremost, home-based food sellers should abide by cottage food laws in their communities/cities/states/provinces/countries. To become a seller, you would simply upload a copy of your driver's license and your food handler's certificate. After approval, you may start publishing your food items by adding a name, description, category, and selecting the quantity and price. As a seller, your food item will be available in the 'Bazaar' tab for others in your community to view and purchase. For customers, based on their location, SurPlate will show them the nearest sellers and also the most recent food items for purchase. They have options to choose their quantity and communicate directly with the seller. When it's time for the customer to pick up their food items, the seller can choose to have them picked up from their home or another designated pickup location. As sellers continue making sales through the SurPlate app, taxes and fees are automatically calculated and implemented.
