App Store Description

Love dim sum, but don't know what to order or how to order? Bring this app, find what you like, and tap the speaker icon to hear the dish pronounced in Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin) using iOS text-to-speech.

Pro users can save and view favorite dishes (tap on the heart button) and practice saying the Chinese names using iOS speech recognition!

Tips:

If you don't hear the Chinese speech, check the mute switch on your iPhone and make sure it isn't on.

The speech plays back at slow speed to help you learn. Double-tap the speech button to play at normal speed.

You can adjust the default playback speed in Settings, from the menu at top left.

Settings also where you can switch the default language between Cantonese and Mandarin (Cantonese is the default).

Over a hundred dishes are listed, but you can select from categories (tags) via the top right menu. You can also search for dishes on the Search screen, and the individual dish pages have a search menu that directs you to related dishes.

Dish pages also have links to more information and recipes on various web sites, including Wikipedia, Dim Sum Central, Di m Guide, Dimsumptuous....

Information for some dim sum restaurants (that I've personally visited and others recommended by users) and their map locations are provided, along with web site and Yelp links.

Related Cantonese vocabulary and links to dim sum and Cantonese resources also listed.

Stay tuned as we'll be adding more dishes in updates. Missing your favorite dish or want to recommend a restaurant? Just drop us a note in a review or visit us on Facebook at http://talkdimsum.com/

Thanks to David Chin, Zack Cohen, Moshe Feder, Andy Fleisher, Claude Hénault, Rolyat Merlot, Ross Mobley, Aileen Wu and 羅大偉 for their suggestions, corrections, and bug reports!

Uses icons from Ionicons.com and Iconfinder.com, the Chinese Colors package from Lin Xiangyu, and photos from many dim sum excursions.
