In late 2017, Matt Coyle moved to Culpeper County, Virginia intending to get back to his agricultural roots and learn more about sustainable farming. Matt was born on a cattle farm in Ireland, raised in New England and studied Government and International Politics at George Mason University in Fairfax. As a student of political science who admires American history, he was drawn to Culpeper County for its rich history, including the location of major Revolutionary and Civil War battles, the first county surveyor George Washington and its proximity to our nation’s capital.

Longtime Lakota Ranch farmer, Dr. Gerard A. Engh, who grew up on a farm in Nokesville, Virginia, became a world-renown orthopedic surgeon, one of the nation’s top Devon cattle breeders and the owner of Lakota Ranch, famous for their grass-fed and grass-finished gourmet Certified Devon Beef. Dr. Engh has always tried to raise the best tasting beef while also treating his animals humanely without using antibiotics or GMO’s or grain. The Devon’s are moved daily from pasture to pasture to constantly have fresh grass to eat and are never fed any grain.
Matt Coyle started working at Lakota Ranch and became familiar with the holistic farming approach, as well as seeing and tasting the difference of sustainably-grown food. This led to the idea that more people should have access to locally grown, high-quality food from local farmers near them and be able to purchase it easily and conveniently online with the option of delivery. On April 4, 2018 Jerry Engh and Matt Coyle, partnered to bring Lakota Fresh Foods to life.

Starting with Lakota Ranch’s Certified Devon Beef, they partnered with 15 different local farmers who also produce products of the highest quality, using a humane and holistic approach to farming, to offer freshest food possible and make it easily available online.

On April 4, 2018, Lakota Fresh Foods officially opened for business with one goal: Offer the freshest, all-natural foods, grown by local farmers, online.

We believe that the food we eat is critical to maintaining a healthy body, mind and soul. Our promise to our members is that we provide transparency about where your food comes from, how it was produced and introduce you to the farmer who made it all happen. Farmer’s work too hard throughout the week to give up their weekends to sit at a market all day, hoping to sell enough of their products, never knowing exactly how much to bring with them or who will come out to the market. Lakota Fresh Foods hopes to let the farmers do what they love doing and what they do best, which is farming and let us connect them to health-conscious consumers.

All of our products are available to order online and pickup once a week in Remington or Culpeper, with more pickup locations coming soon throughout Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C.
