What is it about?

There are many hardcore platformers on the App Store with intense sequences of rapid obstacles coming at you in which you will die a lot. TapAdventure 2 is different in that the entirety of the difficulty comes from insane and irritating gotcha moments. For example, in the very first level you’re presented with three escalating blocks for a seemingly straightforward platformer sequence. Then, when you reach the third platform, spikes appear as soon as you get there. You need to completely avoid the third block, and when you try to reach the ledge up above, spikes pop up there too. The game presents a series of gotcha moments that you learn from, but none that you can see coming. Everything is purposefully designed to be as maddening as possible, and you can’t help but laugh. It’s as though the developers took the standard level design, found the most likely path through, and then slapped a hidden obstacle at that point.

Why we love it

The game is free to download, and it’s likely many people will delete the game after the first or second level. You just need to be aware of what you’re getting into, and just smile at each progressively crazier obstacle placement. The game is full of surprises, and your response comes down to your expectations. It’s fun to see each level take shape in an unexpected way, because it’s tough to imagine what can come next. You can play for free with one life that you will burn quickly, or have ten lives with a video ad. A single $0.99 in-app purchase unlocks the ten life mode, but you always restart at the beginning when you use all ten lives.
