This application turns your mobile device into a Vestigiascope. This experimental technology has been created to enable participants to journey through city of Lincoln and uncover the ghosts of the past, as part of the Distant Christmas project. These ghosts, or what scientists call "vestigia", are the echoes of history recorded onto the fabric of the world around us.

This application turns your mobile device into a Vestigiascope. This experimental technology has been created to enable participants to journey through city of Lincoln and uncover the ghosts of the past, as part of the Distant Christmas project. These ghosts, or what scientists call "vestigia", are the echoes of history recorded onto the fabric of the world around us.
A Distant Christmas is a scientific project led by Dr. Jane Dee to help calibrate her Vestigiascope, using real-world data to find and connect historically related vestigia in any location.
By working with local resident Alex to uncover a mystery relating to their ancestor Kitty, dating back to winter 1918, you will provide the data necessary to link together the connected ghosts of the past and further this important para-historical research.

A Distant Christmas was created by students and academics at University of Lincoln for Lincoln Performing Arts Centre, as part of its socially distanced Christmas programme for 2020.
