App Store Description

Following on the success of our popular "Bird in the Hand" and "Frog Log" Apps comes "Whales and Seals" – a guide to the all the whales, dolphins and seals found in Tasmanian waters. With outstanding photographs and drawings, distribution maps, details of the biology and stranding record, the App is the perfect guide to the marine mammals of Tasmania.

The App has been developed cooperatively by Wildcare Inc and PWS, with funding provided by NRM North. PWS and Wildcare Inc work together to rescue stranded whales.

The App covers Tasmania’s 33 species of whales and dolphins and 5 species of seal. It also provides a guide to whale and seal viewing and advise on what to do if you come across stranded whales or beached seals.

Like "Bird in the Hand" and "Frog Log", the app includes the ability to send in sightings from GPS-enabled devices. The coordinates of submitted sightings are entered into the Natural Values Atlas and will help scientists build a record of Tasmanias' whales and seals

The island of Tasmania is Australia’s smallest and most southern State. It is one of the world’s truely special places. Over 40% of the island is reserved for conservation. It is also the whale stranding hotspot of Australia, with more species stranding here than any other Australian State.

For more info on Tasmania’s reserves and wildlife, conservation and recreational opportunities, see the Parks and Wildlife website: www.parks.tas.gov.au.

We hope you enjoy this App and welcome your suggestions on future versions (email us at iphone@parks.tas.gov.au).

Available for iPhone and iPod touch, OS version 4.3 or higher.
