The +12C Pro app lets users evaluate all types of chargers, both wireless and wired. The complete charging characteristics and history of an iPhone or iPad are available with just a tap or two. Connect your phone to a charger, run a test, and then chart the results. It’s that easy.
Maybe you are concerned about your iPhone or iPad battery charging times. With the sharing features of the app, you can have your friends, family, or colleagues compare their results against yours. Perhaps the problem is your phone or tablet. Perhaps the charger. Perhaps nothing is wrong at all, but at least you have peace of mind. The app lets you sort it all out.
Before you buy a high-power charger, investigate whether your iPhone or iPad will benefit from the higher power capability, and by how much? Maybe an expensive 29W charger speeds up charging, maybe it doesn't.
Run a charge test on your wireless charger. Every wireless charger behaves differently. Some even overheat. Some charge substantially slower than others. There is no simpler way to inspect how your phone charges with different wireless chargers than with this app.
After the app collects the charging data, chart the results. If you see points in the charging process where the rate of charging abruptly slows down for a few percentage points of battery charge, it is highly likely the phone senses an overheating condition and is limiting the charging rate. If the charging rate changes several times over a charging cycle, it is possible the charger itself is creating the problem and causing power cycling up and down. To best see these effects, make sure to run the Active Mode test.
If you have a phone case, run tests with and without the case. If you are using a charging dock, test with the phone setting in landscape or portrait mode. All of these issues can impact charging. The app can help you discover the best method for charging your phone the fastest.
Use the app to take a look at the charging time for the last few percentage points of charging. As a battery ages, the time to charge to 100% starts to increase, sometimes dramatically. Use the app periodically to run a test, keep the history, and then watch how that 100% charging time starts to move out over time.
If you want to buy a used phone, run a charging cycle with the app and look at how slow the battery charges out past 90%. Use the chart results and negotiate a better price or protect yourself from buying a phone that has an old battery or poor quality, third party replacement.
How would you know the difference between one charger and another without actually seeing what happened during charging? Don’t rely upon what’s written on the box. See for yourself with quantifiable data.
While the app provides significant charting capability to visualize charging results, some might want to dive deeper into the data. The app enables this through the exporting of a comma, space, value (CSV) file that can be read directly by Excel, or other spreadsheets and mathematical analysis tools. The sky is the limit on what can be studied once you have the data.
This app was developed as an aid in a 2-year study on phone charging and chargers. The developers were surprised what they discovered. You will be likewise surprised and benefit from the knowledge gained through using the app.
The app comes with a video user guide that is also available online at https://youtu.be/bij-V1_ZzVE.
There is a five-blog series on wireless charging which discusses the background of the +12C Pro app and how it has been used by the developers. Check the blog series at this URL: https://www.nklinear.com/blogs/news/wireless-charging-exposed-an-insiders-perspective
