App Store Description

This application is aimed at helping consumers, chefs, fish suppliers, fishers and anglers identify common fish species found on the South African market and then links the identified species to their sustainability status.

The app uses recognition software so that when a photo is taken of a fish, the app identifies what fish it is as well as revealing whether it is on the green, orange or red WWF-SASSI list.

By using the app and identifying the fish species and it’s sustainability status, you are helping fishmongers and fish suppliers to be transparent and in turn, you are able to make a conscious choice regarding what seafood you choose to buy or eat.

The app is also an education/awareness tool for avid fishers and budding ichthyologists. The more the app is used the smarter it gets. To date, the app is able to recognise 54 species but this will increase in time.
