App Store Description

WWF Wildcrowd is a mobile and web app for naturalists and field guides working in the polar tourism industry and for citizen scientists visiting the Antarctic to record sightings of marine wildlife.

Climate change is impacting Antarctica and we want to know more about its effect on iconic oceans animals. Crowdsourcing the time, date, geolocation and image of wildlife encounters will help our conservation team, scientists and partners identify, monitor and protect important ocean habitats in the Southern Ocean.

The Wildcrowd mobile app allows people to collect data in two modes โ€“ online and offline. In online mode, you can take photos, report information and visualise sightings over maps and sync it to the cloud. In offline mode, you can gather data in remote locations without an internet connection and later upload it when connected to the internet.
A field guide is available to help learn more about the wildlife you may see.

Visit our website โ€“ wildcrowd.net โ€“ upload high resolutions photos taken from your DSLR camera. You can manage your sightings, making them public or private. And, you can upload your search effort, or tracks, recorded on external GPS devices.

All public data hosted on WWF Wildcrowd will be available under a Creative Commons license, meaning that researchers and other citizen scientists will be able to download and use these data in their own projects.

Initially a project with a focus on the Antarctic, WWF Wildcrowd can be used by naturalists working in other areas in marine tourism around the world, including the whale watch community.
