What is it about?
In an increasingly urbanized region, the El Mirage Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Recreation Area provides a timeless Mojave Desert landscape offering numerous opportunities for recreation and discovery in the Great Outdoors. The spectacular scenery and abundant wildlife found on our public lands provide OHV enthusiasts with a wealth of opportunities for adventure. Because of its unique flat surface, the El Mirage Lakebed is a focal point of the area. Visitors enjoy operating motorcycles, ATVs, trucks, cars, buggies, land yachts, model airplanes, model rockets, ultra-light aircraft, gyrocopters, parasails, and full-sized aircrafts. Non-motorized recreation opportunities abound as well such as hiking, rock scrambling, rock hounding, and plant, bird and wildlife watching. To preserve these outdoor opportunities, all those who recreate at El Mirage must act responsibly and recognize that common courtesy and good outdoor etiquette are key to sharing and maintaining our ability to use public lands for generations to come.
