So it looks like AT&T has decided to harness the power of online video marketing by releasing a series of official iPhone 3G videos on the web. In this clip, Larry Meyer from AT&T takes the iPhone for a road test to demonstrate the new GPS features available on all the newly released iPhones.
As cool as this may seem, don't toss your Garmins and TomToms out just yet. According to Apple, the new iPhone 3G's antenna is much too small to be able to emulate core GPS functionalities such as turn-by-turn navigation; thus, they prohibited such an app from being developed in the terms of their SDK. Rumors are afloat that Apple is actually just trying to prevent companies like those above from competing with the onboard Google Maps functionality detailed in this video (or a future advanced Apple navigation app in the future?).
It does, however, track your position as you drive around, but expect some jitters as you drive through tunnels or by buildings that block the iPhone's view of the sky.
