Trojan Horse Disgused as iPhone Game
September 19, 2008
A security firm, Sophos, has unearthed a hostile plot to takeover your computer. The bait? Sweet, sweet iPhone games. First the emails go out with subject lines like: "Virtual iPhone games!”, “Take a break!”, “Apple: The most popular game!”, “Virtual iPhone toys!”, and “Beet my score! (7000 points)!” Then the attachment gets downloaded. No, the lure isn't the macho-fighter Funky Punch, the uber-popular Spore Origins, or the highly-fun Real Soccer 2009 -- it's Penguin Panic. Unsuspecting wannabe Penguin Panicers that download the file (Penguin Panic.zip) on Windows PC computers are, according to the firm, actually instaling Troj-Agent-HNY, a Trojan Horse exploit. Remember, Apple's App Store is the sole distribution method for snagging official iPhone apps. Though their power-hoarding has drawn them negative press as of late, it's situations like these that make you thankful they have such a system in place.
