Apple To Release New "Brick" Notebooks For Less?

October 10, 2008

Apple's upcoming October 14th press event will bring a refresh to the company's notebook line. What exactly does Jobs have up his sleeve? Well, a sub-$1000 laptop fashioned by way of a unique manufacturing process could be in store. An unidentified source has revealed a new line of notebook pricing has been released to some Apple retailers in the U.S., starting at only $800 and topping off at $3100. Excitement is springing up from all angles about the unveiling of new laptops and price ranges, as well as the possible use of the now infamous "Brick" Technology. The "Brick" refers to a manufacturing process that starts with one solid brick of aluminum, and by using lasers and water jets, shaving it down to form a solid notebook. Supposedly some "leaked" pictures of the end result have been leaked to www.Apple.pro (see above). The possible use of such "Brick" technology, accompanied with the lowest price Apple has ever offered for a notebook, has enthusiasts waiting on their toes and eager for more details. No technical specs were included in the price breakdown given to the retail stores so your guess is as good as mine on whether or not Apple will be re-hashing old products with more capabilities, or simply coming out with something completely new. Though Apple only holds 6.5% of worldwide market share for computers, their numbers and popularity ratings have been surging over the past few years (thank you iPhone?). Releasing a less expensive notebook just in time for the holidays could mark Jobs' attempt to grab a wider demographic.
