Go Ahead... Just Nibble A Little

October 22, 2008
How great would it be if you could send SMS messages from your iPod Touch... awesome right? Well soon you can, but don't expect a response. An app called nibbleSMS (soon to be released and from the makers of biteSMS), purposes to make this happen: allow you to send SMS from your iPod Touch, but not receive. Hey, responses are overrated anyways, and this free new app will allow you to get your message out for ~10 cents a pop (as opposed to 20 cents w/AT&T). Now even though the iPod Touch closely resembles an iPhone, we can't forget that you can't actually use it like a phone, which is why this app is so great. To get started the setup is easy. All you have to do is install the app for free on you iPod touch from the App Store (when it's available), but like the saying goes, there's no such thing as a free lunch, so after installing you must buy credits in order to use it. SMS credit rates after the fold:
  • $5 for 50 SMS credits
  • $10 for 105 SMS credits ( 5 free credits)
  • $20 for 210 SMS credits (10 free credits)
  • $50 for 550 SMS credits (50 free credits)
  • After setting up your credits you will be able to use the app immediately, but since SMS messages can't be received on the iPod, you must submit a regular phone number when you are purchasing your credits. That way when you send a message it will look like it's coming from the number you submitted, and not some random one. This number is also needed for nibbleSMS to send you your activation number. You can't take your first bite out of this application yet, but it will be released to the App Store soon.
