Jobs Heart Attack Rumor - Teen Responsible

October 25, 2008

Did Steve Jobs have a heart attack? No! But on October 3rd the rumor spread like wild fire all the way to the stock market, negatively affecting the price of Apple. Now reports are showing that an 18 year old was the source. As reported in a Bloomberg brief the motives of the teen are unknown, and whether or not he set out to gain from the stock market manipulation is under investigation. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is heading the investigation, but so far no evidence that the teen was trying to turn a profit from the scandal has been found. The teen apparently posted the story under an alias and claimed that Jobs had suffered from a "major heart attack."
I have an insider who tells me that paramedics were called after Steve claimed to be suffering from severe chest pains and shortness of breath... My source has opted to remain anonymous, but he is quite reliable.
The rumor first hit CNN's iReport website where it was immediately syndicated to viewers and created a panic amongst investors. iReport is a place where the public can post footage that is "unedited" and "unfiltered" by CNN. The day the false report was released Apple stock dropped 5.4 percent, but quickly rebounded after it was affirmed the rumors were not true. Just a couple weeks later at Apple's notebook press event Jobs announced that he would not be fielding any questions regarding his health... of course a slide displaying his blood-pressure appeared on the bigscreen behind him, revealing that at the very least his sense of humor remains quite healthy. All investigations by the SEC are ongoing and still inconclusive. Photo courtesy Gizmodo
