Pwnage Tool Halted By MacBook... Dev Team Your Move

November 6, 2008
Apple's constant software updates are no match for the hackers at the iPhone Dev Team, but now Apple is employing some new tricks, which they've laced into the updated MacBook and MacBook Pro. A few days ago the iPhone Dev Team cracked the unreleased 2.2 firmware, but now it's being reported that their efforts may not matter. Apparently the Pwnage tool does not function correctly with the new MacBooks when the iPhone or the iPod Touch are booted in DFU mode. The problem.... they are not being recognized, and it's essential to be in DFU mode if you want to jailbreak your phone. Apple is catching on to the new maneuvers being employed by hackers, which is why Apple is doing what they can to try and stop them. The problem is only occurring on new MacBooks, so if you have an older device the Pwnage tool will still work. Rumors are swirling that the latest version of iTunes designed only for the new MacBooks is the source of the trouble. Questions are now being raised about whether or not software like iTunes can even be modified. The iPhone Dev Team has worked miracles before, so it won't be surprising if they are able to solve this mystery.
