Last week it was reported that iPhone owner Rob Greene's MobileMe account helped lead police to his stolen smart phone. The iPhone is in the news again stopping crime, although the story is much more tragic this time. NewsMiner reports on the murder of 62-year-old shop owner Daniel Frederick.
The District Attorney alleges that three men - Raymond Jones, 29, Michael C. Moore, 23, and Brian Towndrow, 21- planned to kill Frederick to impede a military investigation.
The murderers were at large for several weeks before being apprehended by authorities, who were monitoring Frederick's credit card purchases. They were caught after buying an iPhone 3G with the deceased senior's credit card. The thickheaded thief added the stolen cell phone to his existing AT&T account, leading police right to him.
The three suspects now await trial, charged with first-degree murder, first-degree robbery, and tampering with evidence.
