Review: Deal Or No Deal: Million Dollar Mission

December 17, 2008
Overview This game is based on the “hit” NBC show of the same name and unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past year or two, I shouldn’t need to explain it to you. Sigh. But I’ll give it a try. Okay, there are 26 silver cases. You have to choose one. But you don’t open it till the end. The game works like this. You choose cases at random. Inside each case is a cash value. You don’t want to pick the high values. (Again, you’re picking at random). After so many picks, a “banker” offers to buy your case from you. Depending on how many high values are left in play, his offer will be considerably higher. Fascinating, right? Yeah. If you take the offer, game’s over. If you play to the bitter end, you have a 1 in 26 chance of winning a million dollars. That’s what it all comes down to. If you’re wondering what those odds are - it’s a 3.8 percent chance. Feelin' lucky?

Features
  • Game Modes
Quick play – Just like the show. Only it’s not “quick.” At all. Challenge Mode – 10 different levels with different challenges. Whoa, wait - Don’t get too excited, they’re all the same game. Just sometimes there’s more million dollar cases in the mix. These challenges are inspired by NBC’s eagerness to let someone win the million bucks since their ratings started to go down when people realized that the game isn’t that good.

  • Sounds
You can play with the sound on or off. I suppose that's a feature. That's actually the first choice you get to make when you start the game. So yeah, that's a feature, right? Breakdown The Good: I’m reaching down deep for something nice to say about this app and I’m coming up empty. Umm… I appreciate the effort that was put into creating it. Yes. People worked long and hard on it. And that should be commended. Howie Mandel adds a touch of class to - wait - no, he’s not in the game. Not even a likeness. That would have been neat. To get his voice or some Howie zingers in there. That would be have been a good thing.

The girls? They’re… attractive? No… that’s not even true. Forget it. I’m moving onto the bad. The Bad: Oh golly, where to begin… There’s lots of loading. I hope you’re comfortable because it’s going to take awhile to play this game because just like the show… it takes FOREVER! They have to pause between picks. Sometimes the host says something stupid, like “you’re playing really well,” even when I totally wasn’t. What a dummy! The graphics are pretty bad. They remind me of an old computer game that used to run off the floppy disk. Wow, remember the floppy disk? Yeah, those are the graphics you’re going to get. But you know what sucks the most? The game itself. Deal Or No Deal. It’s retarded! There’s no strategy involved! You pick numbers at random! It’s like watching someone play roulette. And don’t try to argue that there’s a strategy involved with the dealer’s offers! It’s just a way to add drama to an otherwise painfully boring game! They have to dangle the million dollars in front of the audience, because that makes it slightly more exciting! I’m gonna stop now. I hate Deal Or No Deal. Verdict If you’re a fan of the show, and you like picking numbers at random, then by all means, get this game. It’s just as exciting, except unfortunately you don’t get to keep your winnings. Otherwise, keep walking and don’t look back. Just go. Far, far away. No deal!
