An Eye for an iPod

It's time for a more serious note. This news isn't about apps. It's about what an iPod (or any awesome piece of expensive technology) is worth in the real world.
Have you ever taken a cab ride? I know that's a pretty general question. Here's where I'm going with it. Most of us have, at one point or another, paid for a car ride. Since taxi cabs started accepting credit cards for payment, we never have to worry about having enough cash, right? Wrong. What happens when the credit card machine isn't working?
Elliott.org reports that a 20 year old tourist in New York had that happen. She was taking a cab to catch her flight home, and her card wasn't accepted because the machine wasn't working. The driver called dispatch to figure out the best solution - find some way to pay, or "book her".
She was able to get out of the cab by handing over her iPod. That's a $50 cab ride for $100+ iPod probably full of music and videos that she had paid for. Her mother has been fighting to find some way to get the iPod back and pay the driver $50, but to no avail.
Though this is a rare occurrence, it happens. iPods have been making news, usually good, but sometimes not so good.
