iPhone 3G Tethering

January 12, 2009
I have owned plenty of cellular phone devices. I started my collection with a rectangular brick Nokia in tenth grade (remember the one with the snake game?) and have done my very best to keep up with the emerging trends. After my iPhone 3G (of course) the best phone was by Sprint. I had it about five years ago, the Samsung N400. My second favorite phone gave me a taste for cell hacking sites - like www.3gforfree.com - that offered a way to get free ring tones, wall papers, and unauthorized games like Dope Wars. But the best part of this phone, by far, was the underrated Data Cable. Sprint had unlimited data at the time, essentially giving consumers in the know free Internet. It was great, but Sprint must have caught on because they discontinued the cable. After the underwhelming MacWorld Expo, the rumor mill is teasing us with talk of an iPhone tethering package for as little as ten bucks a month. MacBlogz quotes an insider at AT&T as saying, "iPhone tethering is primarily an AT&T offering, but it involves Apple at least wanting or allowing the service, which they do. If it doesn’t function as expected, I know of a few people who may lose their jobs”. There are some jailbreak Apps that can do this, but if AT&T offered a tethering plan I'm sure plenty of people would bite. I would.
