Apple Sued Over iPhone's Screen Rendering Technology

February 15, 2009
It's time to once again add to the growing list of lawsuits filed against Apple over the iPhone. This time it's from a company claiming the screen rendering technology used in the iPhone violates their patents. Picsel Technologies filed a suit in the United States District Court for the Distric of Delaware claiming that the technology they created to accelerate the process of updating a display on a device is being illegally used by Apple in the iPhone. The lawsuit claims that:
"users would experience long screen update delays if it weren’t for the use of the patented technology. Zooming and panning documents, Web sites, and images would not work on the iPhone as fluidly," according to the lawsuit.
Picsel says their technology has been employed in over 250 million devices worldwide. Their customer list includes KDDI, Motorola, Nokia, NTT DoCoMo, Palm, Samsung, Sony Ericsson and Sharp. Picsel is asking for compensation for devices already sold and looks to triple that amount as a punitive measure. [via Macworld]
