Pwn2Own '09 Will Feature iPhones

February 28, 2009
Tipping Point has announced that they will once again be sponsoring the Pwn2Own contest at this year's CanSecWest Security Conference. This year the focus will be on browsers and mobile devices including Apple's iPhone. All of you white hat hackers will have a chance to exploit our beloved iPhone for a chance to win $10,000 and the device that was cracked. That's right, if you are the first person to crack a mobile device you will not only get a bunch of cash, but you will also receive the device itself including a one year phone contract. That's over $1,000 in extra prizes. All devices will be fully patched, and include their default configurations. Contestants will also not be allowed to physically open the devices. The attacks must be made through exploits in the software including email, messaging, website browsing and any normal use action. The vulnerabilities will be handed over to the affected vendors, and will be disclosed to the public as well. Tipping Point will post the full results on their blog, but you can rest assured that if the iPhone is successfully hacked you will hear it from us as well. The iPhone isn't the only mobile device being put to the test. The list includes other mobile devices including BlackBerry, Android, Symbian and Windows Mobile phones.
