Review: FollowUp

February 17, 2009
Overview FollowUp allows you to track and organize your phone conversations and then remind yourself to follow-up on them. FollowUp is basically a customer relationship management application used to help you track conversations you've had with friends, but most importantly with business associates. Think of making a sales call. You get a lead, but will eventually have to call the person back - FollowUp is here to remind you of when you should call them back, why you should call them back and make sure you don't miss the date. The app has complete integration with your contacts so you don't have to worry about duplication. But be careful - don't rely on FollowUp to give you a pop-up reminder unless you open the application. So what features does it have?

Features
  • Choosing or Adding a Contact
After you have a conversation that you want to follow-up on, all you do is click on the name of the person, if they are already in FollowUp, or the blank face if not. If you click on the blank face, it will then either retrieve someone from your contacts for you, or you can add a new contact and this new information will be recorded in both your contacts and in FollowUp.

  • Enter and Store Interactions
A new page is made for each conversation (see above). There is a place to record a subject line and then to write notes. You then pick the date that you want to return the call and save the page.
  • Follow-up Reminders
When a follow-up date comes due, it is placed in a red Past Due list. You can store old conversations or delete them. All conversations that are being kept tracked of are fully editable. A list of all outstanding conversations with brief summaries can been viewed at once. Breakdown The Good: Having your contacts fully integrated with FollowUp is very nice since it saves time not having to enter information already in your iPhone. I like the ability to record notes for each conversation and have them all in one place. Then I just need to go into FollowUp each day, see which conversations are in the red Past Due section, check my notes, and make the calls. It is very helpful for anybody that tends to be forgetful - unless you also forget to check the app. The Bad: My only real problem with FollowUp, but it is a fairly big one, is that when you are ready to make that follow-up call, you can't make it from the FollopUp app. I tried over and over to find a way to do so and it couldn't be done. I had to leave FollowUp and go to the Phone app or Contacts to make my actual call. Once the call was made, I could re-open FollowUp to look at my notes, but it wasn't the same. Verdict I like FollowUp in that it does have some good features. If you could actually press something from the app to make the call, it would be almost perfect. I still think it would be useful to somebody that needs a way to organize their calls and be reminded of them.
