South Park iPhone App Rejected Again

February 18, 2009
All iPhone users who are also South Park fans may let out a collective cry of anger because it looks as if the South Park application may never see the light of day. The application consisted of the ability to access streaming South Park clips, news and an episode index for the show. The application also gave users the ability to set South Park wallpapers and assign South Park avatars as images for contacts in the iPhone's address book. BoingBoing received this email after they inquired about what happened to the application:
We first announced our iPhone App back in October, after we submitted the Application to Apple for approval. After a couple of attempts to get the application approved, we are sad to say that our app has been rejected. According to Apple, the content was "potentially offensive." But Apple did admit that the standards would evolve, citing that when iTunes first launched it didn't sell any music with explicit lyrics. At this point, we are sad to say, the app is dead in the water. Sorry, South Park fans.
Fans of South Park will be quick to point out that Apple's iTunes Store currently offers South Park episodes and the South Park movie. What could possibly be more offensive than that? This isn't the first application to get rejected from the App Store and it surely won't be the last. Hopefully Apple will eventually realize that they are making some very poor decisions so we won't have to keep beating this dead horse.
